So I’ve seen a few

So I’ve seen a few more movies lately. Mission Impossible 2, in my opinion, sucked ass. (SPOILERS AHEAD) There were SO many reasons this was the case. First of all, I did like the action but there just wasn’t enough of it. John Woo made some great scenes but WHAT is with the slow motion romance stuff when he’s staring at that chick?

I couldn’t stand how there was almost no attention to any sort of Impossible Mission. I mean the whole Chimera thing almost seemed like a subplot it was so insignificant. There was no difficult complex to break into (ok there was 5 mins worth of it). The chick was a promisiing character until she became just a whiny and incompetent damsel in distress. She COULD have been kick ass. And what about Ving Rhames? Or that Aussie guy? They played almost no role in the entire movie. Why not just get some extras and call it Mission: Tom Cruise? Loathe as I am to admit it, Keanu Reeves looks FAR better doing those martial arts moves than Tom Cruise. He just looked unnaturl. And the fight sequences, while cool, seemed far too much like it was setting up for the next cool kick, rather than being a real fight (sorta like Dragonball actually: stare at each other a bunch, do cool moves for 5 seconds, stare some more). Finally, the stupid deus ex machina ending with the gun at his feet was lame as hell. Yes, kicking up a gun in the sand in slow mo looks cool but the convenience of having a gun just there and the likelihood of not getting shot doing this move is STUPID.

Argh. In other news, Road Trip was pretty good. Worth a matiness. Shanghai Noon is also worth a matinee or a full price if you’re into Jackie movies. It’s everything you’d expect from a Jackie movie and in that respect, they don’t disappoint at all.
