Moving… an interesting experience to say the least. This time from LA to Stanford.
It never ceases to amaze me — how much crap I’ve accumulated over the years. I have over five big boxes of books alone. This doesn’t even mention any of the random stuff — like smurf figurines, bolt cutters, champagne flutes, etc. And of course the apartment I’m moving into (a 2-bedroom) is tiny compared to my last place. But my family is good with packing things into really compact spaces.
The actual moving part was rather uneventful — a ~6 hour drive. It’s the packing/unpacking that is interesting/challenging/arduous… and since I’m transporting my stuff in phases, I’m also having to do the p’ng/unp’ng in phases (how’d you like that for a contraction?).
It turns out that of all of the graduate student residences mine (Rains Apartments) is the most social — which is good, today we had a welcome dinner which predictably drew a large crowd (free food attracts grad students like … whatever).
