World Cup of Hockey

World Cup of Hockey 2004 is happening in late summer this year. It’s almost as big as the Olympics, especially since, given the time of the year, many NHL players will participate (in fact, given the CBA, this may be the last hockey for awhile from them).

Since I’ll be in Europe still, I think I will try to use that as an excuse to go to Stockholm and watch two canadian team captains (Naslund and Sundin) as well as Forsberg, Ohlund and others playing together and peppering Dominated Hasek.

Since I have some Finnish acquaintances, Helsinki may be an option, too. Who knows. Maybe none of it will happen given my thesis will be due soon after that.

Cool, I envy you Kev. When in the summer would that happen? Don’t forget the we are going all the way this year so Nazzie and Ohlund will still be playing for the Canucks in June.

Don’t forget to send pics if you happen to go.

That would be an awesome forum to watch hockey. I’m sure Swedish fans enjoy hockey almost as much as Canadians, and you can munch on some meatballs and have a massage while you’re there. Splendid. Meanwhile, the rest of us will have to get by with home systems, pubs, and so on… before we hoard the streets and create waves of horn-honking traffic.

Hockey is really big in these countries that don’t play much football (soccer). When in Prague, I saw a Czech magazine that was completely focused on NHL hockey. From what I could tell (shockingly, I can’t read Czech), there was an article that was doing a comparison of Bertuzzi vs Tkachuk, an profile of Joni Pitkanen and an article on whether the Canucks are Stanley Cup contenders this year!
