The Giant Jerry Springer Show

Every so often, I stumble on some interesting and intelligent articles. Increasingly, these articles offer a public comment area immediately following the article for anyone to give feedback. From reading these blogs and articles, this is the conclusion I have come to:

The internet is a giant Jerry Springer show.

I hate Jerry Springer because people on the show are so pathetic and stupid. I love Jerry Springer because people on the show are so pathetic and stupid. I loathe it and yet, I can’t get enough of it. It’s a sick addiction where on one hand you think, “wow, we as a race have a ways to go” and on the other you’re justifying their existence by wanting more.

These public forums are exactly that. I read the article, feel a tad smarter and more informed and then I start reading the comments looking for counter arguments or other insightful additions only to find the most inexplicable displays of ignorance and stupidity. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about car crash tests or handheld video game consoles, either.

People are stupid and I’m stupid for reading what they have to say.
