Tools I Use, 2004 Edition

I have a lot of little applications that run on my machine. I thought I’d share what I felt are the best ones so you can try them. I’ve included key features that make me stick with them.

Trillian Pro 2.0/3.0 - Instant Messsenger ($25/yr for pro)

Skype - internet phone (mostly free)

Moodlogic - music manager (mostly free)

SpamBayes - OutLook spam detection (free)

Mozilla FireFox 1.0 - web browser (free)

Picasa - picture manager (free)

Movable Type 3.11 - blog software (sort of free)

AVG Anti-Virus (free)

I’m curious about your level of exposure to iPhoto so I can calibrate the comment “iPhotos but done better”.

Has Trillian 3.0 been released or do you have access to a beta copy?

uurf: I’ve not used iPhoto that much. Mostly it was on a trip out in Europe when my friend brought his laptop. There were a number of really minor frustrating lack of features and even UI issues I had with it but I can’t recall specifics at the moment. Your mileage may vary, of course and more importantly, iPhoto -> Mac, Picasa -> PC so it’s sort of moot.

Sean: Trillian 3.0 is in alpha for both regular and pro editions. It’s right on the front page of http://www.trillian.cc. The best parts are consolidated history, video/audio integration for messengers that support it, Rendezvous support and type-ahead contact finding.
