What are you right now?

My friend Ben was IM’ing with me not long ago. Midway through the conversation, he asked,

Where are you now?

I told him I was in Hong Kong and asked him in kind, wondering if he was in the Bay area, Vancouver, Taipei or elsewhere. It then occurred to me that a few years ago, that question would normally be answered with “at home”, “in the office” or at times, “at a coffee shop”.

    I remember that conversation, and as we all follow our (more and more) global endeavours, it's going to be a question that becomes increasingly necessary (or perhaps UNnecessary). Kind of like that IBM commercial from a long time ago, where they were all over the world and just chatting with each other (with little eye-patch screens and pervasive computing devices).
