Hitting the Fan

I’ve had a few conversations lately with people, not the least of which including my brother and I hear some people saying things like, “I never want to work for someone else again.”

That’s great. I applaud your independent nature and wish you all success. Whether you are writing a game or whether it’s a blog software, there’s potential for great things to come.

What I wonder about sometimes is whether that sentiment is sometimes brought about by just being tired of politics of a company and in general, the $#!+ that one has to deal with. Sure, there’s the want to be in control and pointing your own direction but that’s got to be part of it right?

Let me just ask. _When the $#!+ hits the fan, who do you think is the fan?_

When you’re your own boss, and the boss of many others, be prepared to take on far more useless drama and politics than you ever did working for someone else. =)

Me. I’m the fan.

Hell, I’m not even really the boss (like it’s not me alone), but the other location manager here is one who shrugs responsibility and doesn’t really take any action on anything.

When I took on this position, I didn’t realize so much crap needed to be done still, that so much was missing from an operating business. Ugh.
