Character comedy is always great, especially with such a great cast of characters (and actors). It’s not a knee slapping kind of comedy, which one might expect because it’s one of the first major films Carrell has done since 40 Year Old Virgin, but it’s got some precious moments, both in humor and sentiment. Now I’m just waiting for Chris Guest to make a movie on child pageantries. [imdb link]
Per Wikipedia, Carell was an unknown at the time he was cast for this film, and the producers opposed the casting until 40 Year Old Virgin became a hit.
