Ghost Train (Otoshimono)
In the vein of Japanese psychological thrillers and horrors like The Ring, and yet taking a lot of aspects of other genres of thrillers, this movie didn’t strike me as particularly scary … until I found that I woke up 5 times throughout the night. I guess like Hitchcock films, it affected me more than I consciously realized. The movie is definitely Japanese in culture and I was surprised to find much of the audience snickering at cheesy scenes which, in Japanese culture, would be perfectly normal. For an indie film festival crowd, that was rather disappointing. Regardless, if you’re into the psychological thrillers, Ghost Train is worth checking out. [imdb link]
