Hey Kev,

It’s been awhile and I just dropped by to see if your blog is still being updated. Anyways.. I drink 8+ glasses of water while I work.. that means I have to go to washroom every 30 min or less

Anyways.. what you doing for the holidays?

I’m mainly posting here so that Kevin knows that people actually read this. I also realized (in conversation with KC) the full extent of the wealth gap between my former and present self. Wow.

I just read through the entire archives and realized that I never properly introduced myself:

I too am a friend of the illustrious Kevin Cheng. We met while working for pcOrder/Trilogy together — to be precise, I met him while squatting in his office. His officemate was always travelling and I didn’t have an office on the floor that I was required to be on all the time.

Yeah, since then we’ve had many crazy adventures and now have settled into a relatively peaceful existence as friends.

So in case any of you long-lost friends decide to ever surface and read this, that’s who I am.

In other news: I’m no longer in the market for a flat-screen display — bought my brother a 15″ LCD TFT one… very very nice.

Well, well, well…guess it’s time for another update.
<news announcer voice>When we last left our hero, he was teetering on the brink of alcoholism in peace-torn Dublin

Alrighty…Dublin sucked, so I left. Me and Ashley are back in Vancouver; I’m working at a wireless company called Infowave. Trying to just look at it as a job; my last job was a lot of responsibility, and a lot of it for things I shouldn’t be responsible for in a company. Plus, I think I got screwed over in some way. Anyhoo…new (relatively speaking) web site up at www.brendonwilson.com. I’m living in downtown Vancouver now, in the heart of Yaletown. Me like. I’ve seen Jesse and John, but not too much, as they’re usually hangin’ out with <shudder> Sean.

So Kev, when you comin’ home? Or is that a never-gonna-happen kinda thing?</shudder></news>

Hey Kev,
Arr… I had to retype this whole message… As I was about to say AGAIN…Hope things are going well for you. I’m glad to hear that you’re moving into a house with your buds. I can never imagine you living in an apartment even though you were raised in HK. Anyway, like I was about to say, you never know who you can meet these days especially in my line of work. On a recent flight to New York I met your former roommates who was on their way to a wedding(Brandon’s I think). I felt bad not recognizing them but they were nice enough to approach me. The other incident was meeting actor John Ritter from the ’80s show Three’s Company and his wife Amy Yasbeck from Wings in a Chinese restaurant near my hotel in NYC. Like I said, small world. As for me, nothing special, just the usual weekly trek to HK and the occasional jurney to NYC. It’s good to hear that things are going well for you. Do take care of yourself and I’ll talk to you some time.
Marc

Hey Kevin, just thought I’d drop you a line. Hope things are going well for you. By the way, your company’s stock’s taking a beating right now… oh well. For some of you who don’t know me, I’m Marc. I went to high school with Kevin in Vancovuer. Currently I work as a flight attendant flying to Hong Kong quite frequently and occasionally to New York. The job itself can be annoying but you meet some interesting people sometimes. Well, that’s the 411 about me. Take care.

Cool…a place to spill my thoughts. I don’t know very many of you…in fact, I don’t think I really know any of you so I suppose an introduction is in order.

I’m Anita and I know Kev through his days at SFU. Those days for him are long over but unfortunately I am still there! I’m not an engineer; I’m by far probably the least techy person here. I’m a Business Admin major and my passion lies in Marketing. Right now I’m finishing up an intern with Microsoft (anybody ever heard of them?!) and I’ll be back trudging the campus halls in less than two weeks. The great thing is, I’ll be finished my university career by the end of this year. I’m definitely looking forward to that and I’ve started to scout some companies as potential employers. Kev keeps raving about his digs but I think I’d like to stay on the West Coast. I’d entertain any ideas from the rest of you!

Hello. My name is Jamie Cheng and this is my post.

For the uninformed, I’m Kevin’s younger brother, currently ending my first year in SFU, “intended” Computer Science. These days I’ve actually been studying for my exams – and have the motivation to do so! Maybe it’s a first year thing. Anyway, in other news I’m heading back to Hong Kong for the summer in a few weeks, getting a 9 to 5 job in Hongkong Electric, and perhaps designing a business website on the side. Then I can replace my current portfolio (of which I haven’t touched in a year) with a new one, and hopefully learn a lot in the process. Just as long as I don’t sacrafice any sign of a “life” while I’m at it…

Brendon –> congratulations!!
well, that’s it. neat thingy this blogamajig is!

Back in 2000, this blog was on blogger and I first created it to be a group blog with all my friends so we could keep in touch with each other by posting to one place. It was ahead of its time but I’ve kept the entries others made.

Greetings programs!

I’m Brendon, a university buddy of Kevin. Hmm, here’s the quick synopsis: I quit university, worked for IBM for 6 months. It was interesting, but not going to make me rich, and I’m actually pretty sure I suffered permanent brain damage from working there. Oh well. So I quit, and started working for HushMail as one of their two programmers. I know, I know Kev, the web site sucks…trust me, I’m trying to get them to get their asses in gear. We didn’t have the money to get a decent web designer (and they wouldn’t let me touch it)…but now that we’ve raised $8 million in private funding, we’re getting ready to ramp up.

I spent the first six months working in Anguilla in the Caribbean. Not as fun as you’d think…although I got to do a lot of diving, there wasn’t much else to do. Work, work, work. We were working long hours in our living room (we had an office, but it turned out that the microwave LAN Internet connection worked better from our house), living, sweating, etc, together. We went through both Hurricane Jose (small) and Lenny (shit yer pants huge)…it was kinda sick: in the middle of Lenny, we had no power, no TV, but we had four laptops and four UPSs and a working phone line, so we could download realitime satellite iimages of the hurricane as it pounded the shit out of the other islands (“ouch, that’s gonna hurt!”).

I got to check out the Financial Cryptography 2000 conference on Anguilla, and hung out with some of the big wigs of the crypto world (including Ian Goldberg, Stephan Brands, and the R and S of RSA). It seems everyone wary but enthusiastic about what we’re doing for the world of consumer crypto. Oh, BTW HushMail provides end-to-end secure email via the web using public key cryptography, and a simple, yet patentable, technique.

Well, now that we’ve got the money, my salary’s about to double, and we’ve relocated the company to Dublin, Ireland to ‘ramp up’ the development and sales. I’m now the Development Team Leader (yah!)…it’s weird being on the other side of the interview desk. I’ve had to stop and realize the reasons I’ve refused to hire certain people…they smell; or there’s something slightly sinister about him; I don’t think I’ve looked at anyone’s grades yet.

Hmm, anything else. Oh yeah, I got married. Other than all of that, nothing new
